At the end of September 2020, Citrix discontinued perpetual licensing of on-premises Digital Workspace products. This End of Availability (EOA) means that from now on only a subscription license is available for these products.
TIP #69 - December 2020: What can you do now Citrix stops selling perpetual Digital Workspace software licenses? Read more about it here.
Digital Workspace products affected:
- Citrix Workspace
- Citrix Virtual Apps
- Citrix Virtual Desktops
- Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops
- Citrix Content Collaboration
- Citrix Endpoint Management
- Citrix Hypervisor
- Citrix Provisioning Server
- Citrix App Layering
Customer Success Services (CSS) renewals are excluded as long as existing perpetual licences have active maintenance. For maintenance that has expired for less than 12 months, the option of reinstating is available.
What measures can be taken
One option is to move to the Citrix Cloud. Perhaps you have been planning this step for some time and the EOA is the stimulant to start with this project. Citrix offers so-called "Transition/trade-up (TTU) to cloud subscription licences". This makes it possible to convert existing unlimited licences into subscription licences. Either you keep the current edition (transition) or you use the opportunity to upgrade to a higher edition (trade-up). The migration to the cloud does not have to be completed at once. Citrix offers various advantages (e.g. hybrid rights) that make the transition easier.
Are you looking for short-term solutions regarding subscription licensing models and you have not yet made a final decision on how to proceed? At Citrix Service Partners you will find a wide selection of options, especially in terms of rental periods, sometimes as short as one month.
Are there reasons why existing licences must or should be retained but an increase of usage authorisations is still necessary? In this case, we recommend extending existing perpetual licences with subscription licences.
If you are satisfied with your status quo, see no need for a further increase of licences in the future and a move to the Citrix Cloud is also not planned, then it is not necessary to initiate any of the previously mentioned measures. Your existing license and support contracts remain unchanged, as does the support for on-premises operation.
